As an advocacy partner of The Oasis Foundation, Giving is Social leads the efforts for awareness-building, fundraising and volunteer mobilisation in Singapore and neighboring countries. As members, we understand that not everyone has the time and resources to be at the frontlines full-time. That’s okay -- we’re here to remind each other that flexing the giving muscle is much easier than we think! There are certainly many ways to get involved beyond a one-time trip to Pattaya. In fact, the movement thrives on events that are initiated by its own community members, built on capacity and skills
Intro to 'Dine to Donate'
One such example was activated by Pearl, our resident number-cruncher and all around superwoman. She launched a series of fund-raising dinners coined “Dine-to-Donate” in which she hosted three intimate gatherings in the heart of the CBD and raising over S$2,500+ for The Oasis.
Dine-to-Donate was conceptualised as a spin-off to your regular potlucks. One of Pearl’s objectives was to create a blueprint that was simple enough for anyone to replicate as a fundraising event. She identified the opportunity to gather funds sustainably and provide a setting for people to come dine after work, learn about The Oasis and make new friends in the process.
A friendly fee of S$50 per person was nominated to cover the donation and a meal (estimated at S$17). Pearl aptly chose a popular and reasonably priced Thai restaurant called Folks Collective located at Asia Square. Knowing people get very busy, she sent out invitations to her closest networks to secure a headcount at least three weeks in advance.
On the evening itself, she kicked off dinner with an overview of The Oasis Foundation, then opened up the floor to entertain questions about volunteering opportunities. The rest of the evening was left free for conversation. Payments were coursed directly through Pearl who pre-settled the bill with the restaurant. Post-dinner, thank you messages were sent out and guests who opted-in for newsletters and updates were added to the mailing list.
