Here at Giving is Social, we celebrate the contribution of women to our community.

More than 70% of our volunteers are women who are from various fields and at different stages of their lives. We believe that they greatly affect the giving atmosphere in the organisations and households where they move. So, THANK YOU for being such huge influencers of change!
As a treat to our beloved women out there, here’s Part 1 of our lists of Guilt-free Activities To Do with Your Girlfriends in Singapore.
1. Shop or window shop for highly curated home goods at Tan Boon Liat Building.

You may have been to the swanky shops at Dempsey and thought to yourself that you’ve seen all that’s pretty. If you haven’t been to Tan Boon Liat, then you’re wrong.

Located along Outram Road, the building looks more like a storage facility than a treasure trove of unique home decors and furniture.

Bring your friends and a list of things you need (or might need) for your home or someone else’s home! Don’t feel embarrassed if you don't end up buying anything (we doubt it though) because all the shop owners are very friendly!

Allot half a day to cover all floors. End your day with a stop at The Providore for gourmet ingredients, kitchen wares and an irresistible ice cream sandwich. If you don’t mind doing a bit more cardio workout, walk to Telok Ayer for a wide choice of eclectic fare.

2. Throw an at-home nail spa or hair styling party.

The perks of having these done at home are convenience, comfort, and Netflix! Add one or two other girlfriends to the program and it’s a party!

Tea time is a good time to do this since you wouldn’t really have so much mobility when you’re having your hair or nails done. Our favorites for light food options are Wine Connection Cheese Bar’s cheese platters and cold cuts, or Pantler’s cakes and pastries. They’re available on Uber Eats, Foodpanda and Deliveroo.

So, who to call? For your nails, we love Jeannie of The Walking Nail Service (8488 8158). She’s friendly, skillful and very polite. For your hair, it’s, hands down, Mother Lily of Q.Diva (9663 8581). She’s the most youthful almost-70-year old you’ll ever meet. She’s funny, super friendly and genuinely caring. Both their rates are affordable without compromise on service quality.

3. Sign up for a class through LessonsGoWhere.

From fitness and cooking to crafts and languages, you have more class options than enough to fill all your weekends in a year. What we love about LessonGoWhere are its friendly interface and client reviews.

Check out the dance class by BeatFactory at only $12/person for an hour. The dance space is big and the vibe is not threatening especially for beginners.

Sign up for packaged classes or a multiple-day course to get more bang for your buck. This also means you’ll see your girlfriends more often!

4. Cultivate your hobby or passion and join a Meetup Group or attend a Peatix event.

Both Meetup and Peatix abound with activities that nurture your interests whether it’s collecting succulent plants or growing wealth through bitcoins.

Meetup is a platform where you can find your community of interest. Once you’re part of that group, you’ll get updated on events organised by that host group.

Peatix is an event calendar and ticketing platform for every event imaginable. You can also follow the groups of the events that you’re interested in but they’re not usually an open community unlike the ones you’ll find in Meetup.

Giving is Social is on Peatix. You can follow us there and get updates on the fun events that we organise.

5. Sign up for our ‘Women at High Tea’ series and meet fellow women of style, passion and action!

We believe in the power of getting like-minded women together to share knowledge and inspiration with each other. You and your girlfriends will enjoy a high tea set at every event, while a portion of your fee gets donated to The Oasis, a foster home for abandoned and rescued babies in Pattaya, Thailand.

On November 18, Giving is Social is launching the “Women at High Tea” series starting with a talk on what’s hot in fashion, family and fun in Singapore. Our guest speaker for this first installment is Aarika Lee, Singaporean business woman, musician, wife, mother and style icon.

You can sign up here before November 11 to secure your seat: http://www.givingissocial.com/register.html

How about you? What do you and your girlfriends enjoy doing in Singapore? Share with us so we can share them with others!
