With everything that is going on in our world, it’s evident that there are lots of people that need our assistance in one way or another. Not a single day goes by without newsrooms giving sad news that make one wish they had the power to change people’s lives for the better.

Well, at times, you may feel like you don’t have enough to help those who’re in need. But you know what? The little effort that you put in trying to improve someone’s life can go a long way towards making a positive change.

Besides, when we come together for a common cause, attaining the ultimate goal becomes easier in ways that one never thought could be possible. However, the process of giving does not have to be boring, which is why we, at times, have to come up with unique ways to ensure that we enjoy the time that we spend together while joining hands for a cause.

A fundraising event to rescue children from sexual exploitation

Giving is Social is a social enterprise that inspires, informs and connects givers to high-impact causes and organizations. We've organized over 50 events that have raised awareness and funds for these projects and groups. The events are geared towards making it possible for our supporters to donate while having fun.

In December 2019, we organized an event called Carols for a Cause. The ultimate goal of the fundraiser was to fund rescue of children victims of sexual exploitation in the Philippines. This event has raised SGD30,000, thanks to many of you who have supported the cause generously.

The big news is that through the donations, the International Justice Mission (IJM), with the help of law enforcers and social workers, has rescued 20 children victims and arrested 6 perpetrators.

Such success only becomes possible when we all join hands for a common cause. Many of you have played a part in changing the lives of innocent young people for the better.

We still have more to do.

The following are some opportunities for anyone who wants to be part of the mission to save children from online sexual exploitation (OSEC):

 1. Help fund more rescues this year. You can give to IJM through the #MightyMateo Legacy — an OSEC rescue fund that we put together in honor of our late son Mateo Blanding who passed away earlier this year. All money donated through this channel goes directly to fund IJM’s work to fight OSEC in the Philippines.

Those who sign up to join the Giving Circle will receive:
  • Tools and coaching from Joanna on how to start conversations with people about OSEC, and how to organize awareness sessions and fundraisers (both online and offline);
  • Updates on rescues of children and arrests of perpetrators from the IJM team;
  • Exclusive invitations to monthly online sessions with IJM leaders and frontline workers where you can ask your questions and learn more about the work they’re doing; and
  • Invitations to immersion trips to the Philippines and to meet the IJM team working bravely and tirelessly on the frontlines.
