What is International Justice Mission?

International Justice Mission (IJM) is a global organization that protects people in poverty from violence. IJM partners with local authorities in 29 program offices across 17 countries to combat modern forms of slavery, violence against women and children, and police abuse of power against people who are poor. IJM works to rescue and restore victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and help strengthen public justice systems.

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause a sharp surge in vulnerability for those already on the margins. In Southeast Asia, migrant workers are some of the most vulnerable – hundreds of thousands are stranded with limited access to public healthcare, social protection, food, and safe living conditions.
All funds raised from Carols and Cocktails for a Cause will support IJM’s work to rescue and restore victims of forced labour in Southeast Asia.

What is Giving is Social?

Giving is Social is a movement that inspires life-transforming generosity through learning and social events. These fun events bring people together to inspire them to give, to inform them about how to give effectively, and to connect them with high-impact giving opportunities.

Founded by Joanna Blanding in 2013, Giving is Social has raised over SGD 100,000 for various nonprofit groups across South East Asia including Real Life Foundation (Philippines), The Oasis Foundation (Thailand), Rohei Foundation (Philippines), and Bali Life Foundation (Indonesia), to name a few. With over 50 events organised in the past, hundreds of people have been connected to their giving partnerships.

As a social enterprise, Giving is Social creates social impact through the message of their learning and social products and services, and through its yearly fundraisers. In 2019, it released the “Purpose & Influence” video course and coaching program that aims to get people to start or persist in their life-transforming giving journey. A book entitled “The Giving Back Guidebook for Young Professionals” is scheduled to be released at the end of the year.

How will the event proceeds be managed?

This event will raise funds for IJM in three primary ways:

(1) Event ticket sales
Event ticket sales will cover the cost of food, wine, soft drinks, as well as other miscellaneous costs (e.g. printing, photography, equipment rental, admin, etc.) The balance amount will be donated to IJM.

(2) Silent auction
All silent auction prizes have been fully sponsored, which means that full proceeds from the silent auction will be transferred directly to the beneficiary, less a 3.4% + SGD 0.50 (per transaction) online transaction fee deducted by Stripe (payment processing platform) when payments are made online.

(3) Other donations.
All IJM donations made through Giving is Social will be transferred by 13th of December 2019. Please note that an online transaction fee of 3.4% + SGD 0.50 (per transaction) will be deducted by Stripe (payment processing platform).

As a way of upholding transparency, we will provide our partner beneficiary, IJM, with our comprehensive event accounting and reports within 72 hours after the event. We also release our annual fundraising summary at the end of each year which we post on the Giving is Social website. CLICK HERE to see last year’s summary for reference.

What will the entertainment be like?
We’ve lined up a variety of talented local singers and musicians who will deliver an evening of heart-warming holiday cheer with your favourite Christmas carols. Singing along is encouraged.

Is there a dress code?
The dress code for the event is smart casual with some holiday flair. Cringe-worthy Christmas jumpers/sweaters will be very much welcome!

Can I take photos of the event?
Absolutely! We’d love for you to document the event and share highlights on social media. Don’t forget to use the hashtags: #CarolsForACause and #GivingisSocial.

Given the sensitive nature of the anti-human-trafficking work done by IJM, there may be portions of their presentation which should not be recorded. The speaker will advise you accordingly.

What items are up for auction?
We’re busy curating a variety of silent auction prizes ranging from hotel stays to dining experiences to art pieces to private-chefs-for-hire and more. More details coming soon. Watch this space for more info.

How does the silent auction work?
To participate in the silent auction during the event, you can write down your bid on the bid sheets provided at the auction table. A minimum bid price will be set for every item on auction. If you’re the first to bid, you can meet or exceed the stated minimum bid price, but keep checking back to see if you’ve been outbid. At the end of the evening the auction will close, highest bidding winners will be announced, and the items and vouchers will be distributed on the spot. Payments can be made in check, cash, card, or through an online payment link that we’ll provide.

How can I make a donation to IJM?
CLICK HERE to donate. All IJM donations made through Giving is Social will be transferred within 72 hours. Please note that an online transaction fee of 3.4% + SGD 0.50 (per transaction) will be deducted by Stripe (payment processing platform).
